October Over? November Equals Very Yes?

The coffe's not the only thing that's hot! )

Title Ref, since it's too good not to drag out occasionally.

I am taking the plunge and posting pictures of myself on the internet. In my Flickr of all places!

July 2008

It's a year old since I have very few actual pics of myself, let alone ones that turned out fabulous. I'm usually behind the camera annoying the crap out of everyone.

On the other hand, I got rid of my Facebook a couple of days ago. I made it back when Facebook first started and was limited to people on college campuses, went through the obligatory rush of friending and joining groups, and then proceeded to ignore the thing for years since I had other things to do besides yawp around on Facebook. And then I deleted it since I couldn't remember who half the people I friended even were and most of the people I did know hadn't updated in a couple of years either.

I am considering creating a brand new account and going from there, just because it appears to be a pretty big shiny deal these days, but we'll see. I'd rather whine about my life in my journal most of the time like I did back when I was a stupid young thing. (Though admittedly, I didn't even start online journaling until I started college, so I managed to skip most of the worst of the Teenaged Angst phase.)

Anyone else on Facebook and actually use it? I could use some of the down-low.

Also: the floor at work is killing my feet. Man what a difference being on the ground floor makes!

Aug. 2nd, 2009

I finally got around to posting the remainder of the pictures I wanted to post from July. Got lots of neat pictures from my last trip into DC as well as some pictures of ducks and geese since I got bored during a power outage and went for a walk.

I may even do so again.

Here's the set from the DC trip with a bit of color commentary.

Here's the nature walk along with some other random bits.

Con Report: Otakon 2009! )

Otakon 2010 will be July 30-August 1. We are considering where to book hotel, though we probably won't decide for a bit since we all entered a raffle the Sheraton was having for a free weekend stay. [info - personal] lostangelssong and I are going to do Braska and Jecht from FFX again, which was our very first cosplay together. Though we're going to re-tool our costumes. I'll have to see if I can dig out the old pictures for comparison when we finally get the new stuff together.

Kitty!

Say hello to Sink Cat:

Sink Cat is Watching You

He got his nickname from sleeping in the sink in the bathroom (there is photographic proof on my photostream-- I am too lazy to link right now) and he needs a proper name since the Humane Society was calling him Hubba Bubba. I am not making this up.

He has spent most of the evening sticking his nose everywhere kittyly possible, begging for scritches, and looking out the window. He is a bit of a whee certain death! kind of kitty and surprisingly talky given how quiet he was at the shelter.

Any ideas on a name? :D

Trips!

So I mentioned a whirlwind weekend?

[info] - personallostangelssong, [info] - personalkatimus_prime, [info] - personalroflcopter_down and I went to the National Zoo in Washington, DC on Saturday. We wandered around and looked at all the animals and I took a ton of pictures. And then we went to dinner at Maggiano's. The leftovers are, alas, gone now.

Then on Sunday I took [info] - personallostangelssong up on her offer to take me to the National Aquarium in Baltimore since I'd been bugging her since the new jellyfish exhibit opened. So we did the Aquarium and hung out in the Inner Harbor a little longer before coming home and watching Earth: Final Conflict and getting Chinese. (Well, I had sushi. Yum sushi.)

Pics are uploaded to Flickr now. I took the time to re-organize my trip photos (As in the "I am going to go somewhere and take lots of pictures!" not the "Hey I want to go somewhere and I also happen to have a camera" stuff. It's not worth trying to organize sets for a handful of pictures from somewhere.) since I noticed that my sets were starting to breed out of control. They're now organized by destination rather than individual trips. This will be good since there will be many Otakon pics come July.

Anyway, for ease of skipping to the good stuff, the Zoo trip starts HERE in my photostream. The latest Aquarium trip starts HERE. There are also a couple pictures of the Inner Harbor in the random gallery, but whatevs.

Favorite pictures are... )

Obligatory

I was reading Whatever and apparently a ton of blogs have the following obligatory content. Not to be left behind, here's my spin!

POST UNO:

Hi, here's my journal. I've had one since 2001 in one form or another. I started this one fresh from an insanejournal towards the end of April because I could. :D

My journal is awesome and everyone should read it so there.

POST TWO:

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I kind of had a fun weekend and I'll probably upload and share the pictures when work stops kicking my butt. Also, Star Trek is awesome.

POST TROIS:

Here's a picture of my cat:

cut to spare the flist )

Now I'm up to Internet Code!

Seriously, though, I'm still a little baked from the whirlwind weekend and work kicking my ass. I'll update with something that makes sense later.

May. 31st, 2009

I spent this morning re-organizing my photos since I finished the work I brought home last night (all that's left is a little data entry).

[info] - personalkatimus_prime is coming up for dinner. We're going to order Chinese and watch Dune and it will be the lolarious old edition. Hopefully it will play nice with my PS2. [info] - personalkatimus_prime, [info] - personalroflcopter_down, [info] - personallostangelssong, and I are all going to DC next Saturday. If it's sunny, we're going to the National Zoo. If it's rainy, we're going to the National Museum of American History (and possibly a little of the Air and Space Museum.. there was talk of astronaut ice cream). Either way, we're going to Maggiano's for dinner, which will be awesome.

In the meantime, here's a picture of a cranky lobster I took during Memorial Day weekend. It's also my current desktop.

I never punched a tourist, even if he deserved it.

This picture made it into the 2009 Schmap guide to Baltimore. It's a very pretty set of megalodon jaws displayed under glass, and you'll find it under the entry for the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Ironically enough, that picture is from a trip to Washington, DC that I made back in January, and the jaws are not the set that you can see at the Aquarium. Those jaws are a fiberglass cast so that people can get tourist photos of them with the jaws and a view of the harbor in the background. (One day I'll get a picture of the actual Aquarium jaws. I'm supposed to be going back in May when the jellyfish arrive.) As you can see from the color and the whole being in glass thing, the jaws in the photo are an actual fossil. I took this picture in the Sant Ocean Hall of the National Museum of Natural History in DC, which opened in September of last year. I got a lot of cool photographs of ocean fossils there, including the two most popular shots in my photostream right now. (A wall of trilobite fossils and a prehistoric fish skull.. I can't remember the name of the fish, but it's the one that has the horrifically big parrot jaws.)

So I am a bit psyched that my pictures actually got into something, and I'm still loling that it's filed under the wrong tourist destination. Maybe they'll get it right for the 2010 DC guide?

Apologies for the uncut picture, gentle readers, but I couldn't help myself. I don't usually make a habit of this.
