So the Large Hadron Collider is going online tomorrow. First beam will happen probably while I'm stuck working so I won't be able to geek out at the live webcast from CERN.

To celebrate, have some appropriate music. It references the SSC (Superconducting SuperCollider) which was the biggest accelerator before the LHC was finished and some stuff about string theory which is the current "best guess" theory for why the universe is like is it. The LHC will actually be used to check for particles and other phenomena that are predicted by some versions of string theory, so having it online tomorrow will let physicists know which versions of the theory to concentrate future research on. With luck, it could get us on the right path to a proper "Theory of Everything."

Gogol Bordello - Supertheory of Supereverything

If the LHC really does destroy the world tomorrow, then so long and thanks for all the fish. ♥

Just watch it. You will LOL.

Apparently as part of some viral marketing campaign, there are several muppet accounts on YouTube. With new stuff that's reminiscent of The Muppet Show. Right down to good old Statler and Waldorf heckling the acts at the end.

In fact, Statler and Waldorf have their own account and have been posting video responses to various other YouTube videos in their usual vein.

The really silly part is that Sam the Eagle would probably totally fit in on Fox News. And be one of the less batshit commentators on it.

Blame my late-night ADD.

Also, do not give candy to bears.

Happy News!

Sulu's gettin' hitched and it's OMG adorable. :3

Thought I'd share.

Ellen's getting hitched too.

In other news, Richard's VA from Looking For Group actually sang the entire Dickroll and put the mp3 of it up on his myspace. Please oh please let there be an animation in the future. I wanna see Richard shakin' it. :D

Now if only they'd get around to having that particular fight out in Maryland.. I might actually be able to get married before I'm officially a spinster. :D

I can actually have a little sympathy for the Governator on the issue. From what's been reported, it sounds like he just personally doesn't want to end up in the middle of the fight, and putting the choice back into the hands of the people and the courts is pretty mature when based on his political leanings he'd personally just say no.

The Earth is singing.

Too good not to share.

April is poetry  month, and while I don't usually celebrate it, I like this poem if only because it describes my usual week perfectly.. minus the sex, tho, since I have to be up early in the morning. :|

On a Seven-Day Diary
by Alan Dugan

Oh I got up and went to work
and worked and came back home
and ate and talked and went to sleep.
Then I got up and went to work
and worked and came back home
from work and ate and slept.
Then I got up and went to work
and worked and came back home
and ate and watched a show and slept.
Then I got up and went to work
and worked and came back home
and ate steak and went to sleep.
Then I got up and went to work
and worked and came back home
and ate and fucked and went to sleep.
Then it was Saturday, Saturday, Saturday!
Love must be the reason for the week!
We went shopping! I saw clouds!
The children explained everything!
I could talk about the main thing!
What did I drink on Saturday night
that lost the first, best half of Sunday?
The last half wasn't worth this "word."
Then I got up and went to work
and worked and came back home
from work and ate and went to sleep,
refreshed but tired by the weekend.

I got myself addicted to Chibi-Robo Park Patrol over the last couple days. Yeah, Wal-Mart has a monopoly on the game and buying it is giving money to the evil peoples who run Wally-World... but it's adorkable and I love it and I have to forcibly tear myself away from making my park even more awesomer. I loved Chibi-Robo on the GameCube (Eowyn had a copy and was willing to let me play it with her) so I was ecstatic to see it on the DS.

Screw you, Wal-Mart, for actually having a good game.

Neat thing:

Garfield Minus Garfield
There are about a zillion different Garfield re-does to make the comic actually funny again. This is probably my favorite. The whole strip goes from the same five tired jokes to a surprisingly poignant story about a middle-class everyman slowly succumbing to modern life. And I only stole a little of that description from the comic's site.

Yatsumi made it to 34 and got the Sword of Omen. Yes, I have completed my first successful Cath run (as DPS). I also got nifty gloves out of the deal and I seriously want to go AGAIN OMG. Still need to run RFD.

Operation Get Crap for the Ides is a success. I have everything but the more esoteric of the poster supplies and the snacks/water, which I plan on getting at the local craft store and Target on Friday. There is a giant L Wut sitting on my table courtesy of the Rasterbator. I also have a bitchin' suit jacket that is much more stylish and better-made than my old suit jacket. It was also more expensive, but a suit is an investment, dammit.

Have I mentioned that I hate Daylight Savings Time and I really really want to sneak a day off this week? Yeah.

Parody of Anon's first message to Scientology

It's an "outtake reel" and absolutely hilarious. I loled and would lol again.

Proof that humor and being able to laugh at yourself can change a world. :')

Also, yay for impromptu days off.

IJ Appreciation Day!

I didn't do anything too special to celebrate the day.. I just went ahead and snatched up a permanently insane account for [info]pyrocumulus while they last. XD

I'm considering adding another RP character to the IJ flock. If I can pry him out of his corner in my head.

ETA: lol [info]gaiatheory!

First /b/ of the new year

New Year's Resolutions:
  1. Drink more. I have a perfectly acceptable bottle of Zinfandel in my fridge and dammit I'm not letting it go south for lack of drinking.
  2. Diversify my sampling of baked goods. The same old fun-size candy gets old.
  3. Attempt to eat solid food for breakfast more often. Oops.
  4. Not be tempted by old guilt trip complexes to go on any diets and stop hanging out with people who talk about nothing but their/their spouse-friend-whatever's diets. I want to enjoy my food without the statistical breakdown, and hanging out with people who have their personal food police makes me tempted to punch said food police.
  5. Brush my teeth more, to go along with finally doing those yearly dental visits I've been ignoring for the past several years. I suppose it helps that the dentist is cute..
  6. Get Harut to 70 so I'll actually get to take a swing or two at endgame before Wrath of the Lich King comes out.

I like lists. Have a list of random stuff. :D

Okay, so there was a minor fat rant in there. New Years is a bad time for fat people.

fr00t salad

Today's moment of zen was when I was talking to one of my students after school (he was making up a quiz) and mentioned that I tend to get juuust a little generously lazy with scoring around the holidays because I am a Christmas freak. (He was also nervous about what impact the score on the quiz would have on his grade.) He described it as letting out my inner Mumfy. I loled.

I have completed my mission of making a metric asston of fruit salad for the feel-good lunch tomorrow at work.

I think I managed to mangle up my one fingertip pretty good and needed to cut my nails with how bent up I got them, but I have a delicious salad of froots chilling out in the fridge.

Recipe under the cut to see what it takes to make awesome winter fruit salad. (It's kind of a Christmas tradition of the last couple years to make it around Christmas for breakfast and such.)

LOLCreashun Contest over at Whateveresque. It's all LOLCat-style macros from pictures Scalzi took during his trip to the Creation Museum.

Perfect thing of beauty for a Sunday morning. :D

And people with Photoshop-fu have until midnight to make macros for the contest. The prize is a signed copy of The Ghost Brigades which is also some kind of awesome.

I feel a lot better about Scarlet Monastary.. I ended up PUGing the library and the graveyard and had an awesome time! I even got the Hypnotic Blade out of the deal, though I really wanted the Illusionary Rod. Maybe I'll poke someone to run Library again with me. We did end up wiping once, but there was a shammie in the group who helped rez, and even though the warrior ended up sitting out the rest of the instance we managed to kick ass and take names anyway. God, it was awesome. Though I suppose I should be sad considering that I was expecting so low a performance level after trying to run bits of SM with the huntard in the group.

As it is, Zaori's dinged 39 and she's about a quarter of the way to 40, and I have the mount money in hand so it's straight to the Exodar for my little elephant~! I'm hoping that the gold I have in excess (about 22 g in fact) will be enough to cover skills and maybe an equipment upgrade or two. (I should really try to run library again.. If I can get that staff... *insert drooling here*)

The awesomesauce fantasmabob posted some links to some YouTubed E:FC. This guy/gal/whatever has Infection, Secret of Strandhill, and Descision up, but only Infection is properly labeled, so I haven't gone through to try and figure out what parts are Secret of Strandhill yet.

I should probably point out that if you're a hardcore science buff, there's some stuff in there that would probably make you want to beat your head into the wall when it comes to Infection. XD

There is also some gratuitous Robert Leeshock in there.. no, the video isn't the best (it seems to just be random glamor moments from like three episodes) but I'm getting fond enough of the song to like it.

This is pretty cool too.

Wait until the IJ code update goes through. I will be dangerous then.

HP Fic Rec+/b/

Am in the Great White North brushing up on my driving skills. And I really want to go back home. :/ God it's so boring here. And I absolutely loathe the left-handed computers here, and I can't play WoW because the interfaces are all screwed up + left-handed computers. So about all I can do is read fic.

That and I think I've come down with something, and I should probably call the doctor tomorrow. I think I have another UTI. Hopefully it's either a false alarm or the early stages this time. (They can recur. It's a pain in the ass. Maybe I can knock it out this time by going before it gets out of the mildly uncomfortable stage.)

Anyway.. I have a really amazing fic rec by somebody I'd initially never heard of. Stealing Harry by [info]sam_storyteller is an AU piece of wow-ness. Some of the other stuff is also pretty awesome.

Stealing Harry is DH spoiler-free, BTW. XD
